In an interview with The Commercial Appeal, singer-songwriter Elvis Costello mentioned how excited he was to be sharing the Saturday night bill on the Sam’s Town Stage with friends and heroes like Los Lobos and Al Green. Costello also said he’ll be returning to the festival on Sunday to check out sets from friends like Bonnie Raitt and James Taylor, as well as the inimitable Jerry Lee Lewis. But the one show he was most enthused about was the Saturday Blues Tent set from Howlin’ Wolf sideman and blues guitar great Hubert Sumlin.
Meanwhile, Steve Miller, main man behind classic rock giants the Steve Miller Band, is going to be spending a whole week in Memphis. He’ll be following up his Friday night performance at the music fest with an appearance at next Thursday’s Blues Music Awards.
Miller, no stranger to the Mid-South, adds that he’s “going to go check out Elvis’ house for about the fifth time, and go visit the Stax Museum again, which is just so great every time I go.”
