The National Anthem has been played ... SBEC will battle Davidson Academy in mere minutes, while it's estimated that St. Benedict meets GPS at 7:30.

The SBEC-Davidson Academy contest will start at 5:30. Original start time was 5. Both teams are warming up on Field #3 right now...

Rain, Rain stay away...

St. Benedict will have to do it the hard way and come through the loser's bracket to win the D2-AA state title. The Eagles lost to GPS 7-4 earlier today. SBA plays Pope John Paul II at 7 p.m. tonight in an elimination game. If SBA wins tonight they would have to beat GPS twice to win the title.

The Covington Lady Chargers aren't done yet in their hunt for a Class AA state softball title.

Behind a complete-game masterpiece from MTSU signee Tobie Joy, Covington ran past Martin Westview, 9-1.

"If I wanted a daughter, I'd want one just like her," said Lady Chargers coach Martha Lawler. "Athletic-wise and everything."

Covington (35-6) meets the winner of Unicoi County or DeKalb County tonight in yet another elimination game.

In winning their second game of the season against Westview, the Lady Chargers scored three runs in the fourth inning and two runs in both the fifth and sixth.

A couple of observations from this morning's 9-1 SBA victory over Pope John Paul II at McKnight Park:

1. Her teammates affectionately call centerfielder Kelsey Logue "Grandma". Wonder what her nickname will be next season at Boston College??

2. There was talk from the dugout late in the game about possibly batting around in an inning. It not only was discussed, the Lady Eagles nearly did it in the seventh, as nine batters marched to the plate. SBA scored four runs.

3. The win was SBA's 30th of the season. I'm thinking that leaves coach Christy Bingham a few shy of a million in her brilliant career.

Morgan Mosby struck out 18 and only allowed one hit to led the Lady Trojans to the first-round victory this morning at the Starplex complex in Murfreesboro.

SBEC scored three times in the fourth and again in the sixth to pull out the win.

SBEC advances to play Davidson Academy at 10 a.m. Thursday in the winner's bracket final. St. George's plays FACS tonight at 5 p.m. in an elimination game.
