(From left) Sue Hill (Omaha, Neb.) joined Germantown resident Peggy Williams and Susan Scott of Memphis for a visit to Assisi, Italy, 90 miles north of Rome in the rolling hills of Umbria. Assisi is an exceptionally well-preserved medieval town and the birthplace of St Francis. The Basilica of San Francesco, in Assisi, is one of Italy’s most visited monuments. In the 1400s a wall was built around Assisi as many Europeans flocked to this peaceful part of Italy.
